Churchill's Marlboro Long Lunch
Churchill's Marlboro Long Lunch — Original Painting
£2,500.00
A celebration of long lunches, good company and knowing when the sensible option is another bottle.
Inspired by the unmistakable red and white geometry of vintage Marlboro packaging, this original painting reimagines one of the most recognisable designs of the last century, replacing the familiar branding with LONG LUNCH and FILTERED COMPANY.
A solitary martini takes centre stage, while beneath the title sits a familiar quotation often attributed to Winston Churchill:
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.”
Followed by the artist's rather less statesmanlike conclusion:
“So yes, we will have another bottle.”
Built up through expressive layers of rich red, chalky white and flashes of blue acrylic, the painting combines bold graphic imagery with a heavily textured, distressed surface. Paint is applied, scraped, sanded and worked back into the canvas, allowing earlier colours and marks to emerge throughout.
A playful collision of iconic advertising, British wit and the enduring pleasure of a lunch that goes on considerably longer than intended.
A completely unique original painting. There is only one.
