ONE MORE BOTTLE in London
One More Bottle — Original Painting
£2,500.00
A celebration of London's great long-lunch institutions, good company and the inevitable words, “One more bottle?”
This original painting brings together menus, restaurant names and familiar details from some of London's most celebrated dining institutions, including St John, Sweetings, Scott's, Wiltons, The Wolseley, The Devonshire, J Sheekey, Rules, The Guinea Grill, Quo Vadis, L'Escargot and many more.
Built from layers of restaurant menus and ephemera, each element is torn, collaged and worked directly into the canvas before being partially buried beneath expressive layers of acrylic paint.
Fragments of menus, handwritten notes and restaurant typography appear and disappear throughout the surface, creating a richly textured celebration of London's long-lunch culture.
Across the composition sits the familiar request ONE MORE BOTTLE — three words that have extended many a perfectly good lunch well into the afternoon.
Painted, scraped and layered entirely by hand, the work celebrates great restaurants, memorable afternoons and the pleasure of having absolutely nowhere else to be.
A completely unique original painting. There is only one.
