I Ordered the Magnum brings together a collection of fictional book spines, each carrying its own observation on wine, lunch and the art of not taking life too seriously.
From “I came, I saw, I ordered the magnum” and “I drink to make other people more interesting” to “My 3 C’s… Champagne, Chablis and Claret”, the painting reads like the bookshelf of a particularly well-lunched member’s club.
Layered, painted and deliberately weathered by hand, the work has the character of an old library assembled over many years — with references to Churchill, long lunches, good bottles and questionable decisions.
At its heart is the philosophy behind the Long Lunch Club: good company, good conversation and very little reason to rush home.
