At the centre sits the familiar geometry of vintage cigarette packaging, reimagined as LONG LUNCH and FILTERED COMPANY. A solitary martini sits above the title, while the handwritten line beneath reads:
“If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.”
Surrounding the central image is an energetic, Pollock-inspired field of thrown, dripped and layered paint. The controlled graphic structure of the packet sits deliberately against the chaos of the background — part vintage advertising, part abstract expressionism.
Built up by hand through layers of acrylic, scraping, sanding, splashing and expressive mark-making, the surface reveals traces of its making throughout. At 48 × 36 inches, the increased scale gives the work considerably more presence, allowing the central image to almost float within the surrounding paint.
A playful celebration of good company, long lunches and occasionally ignoring the rules.
