Lunch Will Continue
A celebration of long lunches, martinis and knowing when the sensible option is another bottle.
Inspired by the unmistakable geometry of vintage cigarette packaging, this original reworks the familiar graphic in rich Marlboro red and chalky white, with LONG LUNCH replacing the original branding and FILTERED COMPANY sitting above.
At the centre, a solitary martini provides the invitation, while beneath the title sits Winston Churchill’s wonderfully fitting observation:
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
Followed, in the artist’s hand, by the rather less statesmanlike conclusion:
“So yes, we will have another bottle.”
Built up through layers of acrylic paint, scraping, sanding and expressive marks, earlier colours and imperfections are allowed to break back through the surface, softening the graphic structure and giving the work the texture and character of an original painting.
A playful collision of iconic advertising imagery, British wit and the enduring pleasure of a lunch that goes on considerably longer than intended.
A completely unique original work. There is only one.
Size: 40 × 30 inches (101.6 × 76.2 cm)
Medium: Acrylic and mixed media on canvas
Original: One of one
Signed: Hand signed by the artist
Framing: Framing available on request
