Filtered London Long Lunch
An ode to the great London long lunch, with a nod to one of the most recognisable pieces of graphic design of the last century.
Built from layers of menus collected from some of our favourite London institutions — including St John, Sweetings, Wiltons, The Wolseley, Quo Vadis, The Devonshire, Bellamy’s, Quality Chop House and many more — torn, layered and worked directly into the canvas.
The familiar red and white geometry of a vintage Marlboro packet is reworked as the backdrop, with LONG LUNCH replacing the original branding. Translucent layers of acrylic allow fragments of restaurant menus, handwritten notes and typography to remain visible beneath the colour, bringing together two recurring themes in the work: iconic packaging and the ritual of the long lunch.
Painted, scraped and layered by hand, the surface retains the imperfections, torn edges and marks of the original collage.
A completely unique original work. There is only one.
Size: 40 × 30 inches (101.6 × 76.2 cm)
Medium: Acrylic and mixed media on canvas
Original: One of one
Signed: Hand signed by the artist
